PERSONAL FACTORS OF A MID-LIFE CRISIS EXPERIENCE

Abstract

The article deals with the analysis of the concepts of «mid-life crisis», «hubristic motivation», «psychological age», «pursuit of excellence», «pursuit of perfection», «anxiety», presentation of foreign and domestic scholars on these phenomena. The research methods of personal factors experiences mid-life crisis, and the results of studies on the relationship between indicators of hubristic motivation, age and psychological features of experiences mid-life crisis are presented. It has been proved that the mid-life crisis is characterized by the following tendencies: the dominance of excellence, moderate indices of crisis experiencing, and high indices of this construct as to the parameters of feeling, psychological age, which is seven years below the average biological age. It has been found out that these trends are peculiar for the individuals who undergo the beginning of the mid-life crisis, and for those who are at its final stage. The author has shown that the pursuit of excellence is closely related to anxiety about his health and lost youth, whereas the feelings of being younger is associated with freedom from anxiety about the state of his health and signs of aging.
