Abstract

Purpose. The purpose of the article is theoretical substantiation of psychological mechanisms of information influence on the personality of an adult and practical implementation of the proposed psychological model.

Methods. The paper uses theoretical methods, such as: analysis, synthesis, comparison, abstraction and generalization of theoretical facts about information influence and personal maturity, as well as experimentally tested the training program "Development of information maturity".

Results. The article highlights the results of scientific research in the field of media psychology. The author drew attention to the negative aspects of information progress that significantly affect people, create misinformation and harm psychological well-being. The values and characteristics of the information society as a new stage of human existence are presented. The examples demonstrate how a person can be biased towards new information. It was found that vulnerability to media content depends on the characteristics of scientific intelligence, individual susceptibility and the media techniques that were used. Based on these main components, the author proposed a model of psychological mechanisms of information influence, which consists in their combination. The expediency of developing and implementing a training program aimed at developing information maturity is substantiated. The process of approbation and the structural components of the program are described: psycho-education on media hygiene, development of critical thinking, formation of conscious choice skills, increasing the level of cognitive abilities, development of personal maturity.

Conclusions. It is found that there is an urgent need to study the mechanisms of information influence and develop tools that will help to resist negative media effects. Certain psychological patterns of susceptibility to information influence are established. The proposed program can be used as educational or developmental material in educational institutions and in the work of a practical psychologist. The article is a logical continuation of the author's research on the topic of information influence on the personality.
