Current trends in American psychology of sport and exercise

Purpose. The article provides a theoretical analysis of the organizational and conceptual changes that are observed in the modern psychology of sports and exercise in the United States.
Methods. To achieve the goals of the study, we used the analysis of publications in specialized scientific journals, as well as the study of official documents and information materials of professional associations of sports psychologists.
Results. The development of sports psychology in the US has shown a more rapid progress since the 1990s. There is a qualitative growth in the field of applied sports psychology practices. The demand for the developments of psychologists - practitioners in the field of performance psychology is noted. However, in the process of development, organizational and methodological problems of expanding the scope of applied application of the acquired experience, integration with the organizational cultures of sports organizations, professional identification, training and certification of competencies were revealed.
Conclusions. The study showed that the attention of experts is most attracted to the problems of transforming the field of activity of sports psychologists, studying and disseminating best practices, the place of sports psychologists in the organizational culture of sports organizations, professional identification of sports psychologists, training programs for mastering relevant professional competencies, improving the regulatory framework for certification of specialists.
